Predicting the New Normal amid Multiple Crises | There is no denying that 2020 will go down in history as a year filled with crises - a global pandemic the likes of which has not been seen in over a century, a historic economic depression, a long-overdue reckoning with systemic racism, and a presidential election season that nearly destroyed the foundations of our democracy. These simultaneous crises echoed resoundingly across our campuses as our field was abruptly forced to exist in a virtual space. Although these crises rage on, fall 2021 looms ever nearer and the desire of our institutional leadership to “return to normal” grows. How do we, higher education professionals, act as agents of change in pursuit of this new normal?
Our panelists and crisis experts:
Dr. Meena Bose, Peter S. Kalikow Chair in Presidential Studies and Director of the Peter S. Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency, Hofstra University
Jackie Lochrie, Senior Associate Dean of Student Services, St. John's University
Dr. Rebecca S. Natow, Richard P. Nathan Public Policy Fellow, Rockefeller Institute of Government for 2020–2021 and Assistant Professor of Educational Leadership and Policy, Hofstra University
Dr. Jarvis Watson, Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, School of Visual Arts
