A Multifaceted Approach to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion within Student Activities and Greek Life
Join Alexa Grosskreuz, Senior Assistant Director, and Tommy Severin, Assistant Director to learn about the ways Adelphi University’s Center for Student Involvement has integrated diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives into multiple areas of student involvement including student organizations, fraternity and sorority life, student government, and student leadership trainings. Alexa will share about incorporating DEI into student organization accreditation programs, implementing an ad hoc committee focused on diversity within the Student Government Association, and launching a student-led and sponsored speaker series. Tommy will provide an overview of the current diversity-related trainings offered by the Center for Student Involvement and will talk about his work with the Greek Life & Social Fellowships Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group that was recently recognized with LICSPA’s Innovation Award at the 2020 Annual Conference.
Alexa Grosskreuz (she/her/hers) is the Senior Assistant Director in the Center for Student Involvement at Adelphi University. She oversees outreach and development for commuter students and student organizations, advises the Student Government Association and oversees graduate student life. Prior to this role, she served as the Coordinator of Student Activities at the Culinary Institute of America. She is a double alumna of Stony Brook University, where she has worked in Student Affairs in some capacity since her undergraduate years. She has a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration. Alexa has been involved with LICSPA since graduate school and recently served as the Logistics Chair for the 2019 & 2020 Annual Conferences.
Tommy Severin (he/him/his) is an Assistant Director in the Center for Student Involvement at Adelphi University. He oversees the fraternity, sorority, and social fellowship community and serves as the staff lead for multicultural affairs and social justice initiatives. Before coming to Adelphi, Tommy was the Assistant Director for Residence Life and Involvement at Wingate University where he worked with the fraternity and sorority community, oversaw all student organizations, and served as the primary advisor to the Student Government Association. In addition to his professional roles, he serves Pi Kappa Phi as a member of the Individual and Chapter Conduct Committee and as an educational programs facilitator for Pi Kappa Phi, Phi Kappa Psi, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. He has his undergraduate degree from Iona College and his Masters of Science in Student Affairs Administration from Binghamton University.
